New Single, Album, and Bonus Material Goodness!
Pigeon’s new single is set for February 2009 and album release for March 2009. After a recent split from a sextet to duet, rumored to be because of lead singer, Heather Grey Chase’s, bitchy attitude, Pigeon hopes to be back on the road in late spring promoting their new album.
The band’s pre-break-up, unreleased and unfinished album, Wayward, will be featured on the new album as bonus material.
Pigeon Plays Hard to Catch
HAMBURG – They’ve been promising new tracks for two months, but Pigeon’s fans are beginning to wonder if they plan a release at all.
Pigeon’s leads (Heather Chase and Erik Monk) are still in Europe, having attended the MTV 2008 European Music Awards. The reason for their extended visit is a supposedly “secret” collaboration. Pigeon plans to continue their own album when they arrive home in the US.
“It’s exciting to be collaborating . . . we have so much going on.” Erik spoke briefly to the press at the MTV 2008 EMAs. “Our keyboardist’s in rehab for two more weeks, our bassist is M.I.A; lot’s of new ideas to talk about, but where the hell’s the band?!”
A coy Heather added, “The new album will be like the original Pigeon beat . . . lots of acoustic backing.” Does this mean she’s going to hand the microphone back to Monk? No definite yet.
“Wayward will be the album.” the pigeons knowingly smiled.
Pigeon stranges-up for upcoming album…
The fashion-rockers are turning attention to stranging-up their sound. “We want a different flight plan – we’ve grown and so have our tastes.” drummer Libby Fink says.
For their new album, Wayward, Pigeon lyricists, Heather Chase and Erik Monk, have strung together catchy lyrics with old school beats, thanks to Dune and Feist Ralston; bassist and guitarist. “Wayward reflects inspiration from our favorite artists; Placebo, The Postal Service, and Goldfrapp.” Monk says, “It is different from our older records.”
The new beats have a sophisticated sound and wider vocal variety, “It’s edgy alternative rock.” keyboardist Chloe coos. Pigeon’s signature concert violin and classical piano are still included, with a twist of acoustic backing – “A nice surprise for fans.” Once again Pigeon has a rhythm guitarist – Chase. “I’m not just singing ‘cause I have money – I can play a guitar.”
Wayward is set for release in early 2009. The band feels “…it shouldn’t be rushed; we want this to be the album.” Violinist Monk comments, “I feel like Pigeon is starting over, wiping the slate clean.”
