Digital Love: Tokio Hotel Rumor of 2009
Is it really what you thought it was?
Heather Grey Chase’s moniker is synonymous with surfing for Bill Kaulitz’s girlfriend. It’s virtually impossible not to have read any of the Tokio Hotel diehards’ debate whether or not Chase and (lead singer) Kaulitz are an item. After all, Chase’s relationship with Kaulitz is the Tokio Hotel fandom rumor of 2009.
It started as a blurb on Tokio Hotel’s Spanish fan site, and grew into a virtual phenomenon via mass coverage from world-wide pop-culture blogs, YouTube stalker videos, bashings on music forums and various tabloids’ claiming the couples’ love, friendship, and infidelity. In early 2009 the rumor of Heather Chase dating Tokio Hotel lead singer, Bill Kaulitz, disappeared from public eye leaving fans grappling with confusion, but more rumors would surface and the chase would be on again.
Are they really together? Or is it just a Tokio Hotel marketing gimmick?
In spring 2009 rumors of Chase’s band (Pigeon) lending their signature violin trademark to Tokio Hotel’s new album, in a published article, attempted to explain the question of who Heather Grey Chase really was. With a subsequent break up of Pigeon, Tokio Hotel returned to the scene. In August 2009 TH announced their new album Humanoid. Chase retreated back into anonymity.
Was Humanoid named for Chase? Did Bill and Heather break up?
With Humanoid’s release in September 2009 Kaulitz confirmed his single “Automatic” was indeed inspired by love and a girl. The album itself was inspired by something that happened to him over the course of the last year. Kaulitz stated something totally unexpected had started online. Yet along with the hype of “Humanoid” came the bashings on Billy’s masculinity, from Perez Hilton and then Alexa Chung. Eerily, Chase materialized to successfully defend Kaulitz’s honor once again.
Who is this girl? Are Chase and Kaulitz for real?
Tokio Hotel fans were positive they had Heather Grey Chase figured out. For them, the lack of information had deemed her a fraud. Then, on December 22, 2009 a photo of Chase exiting her car was published. Tabloids greeted it as a first, enjoying the fact that it had not been hidden by Tokio Hotel’s management or by Chase’s reclusive family.
Has the world found Heather Grey Chase?
At the close of the year, and propelled by 2009’s favorite social networking sites, Twitter and Facebook, Chase once again looks like Bill Kaulitz’s girlfriend. It comes as no surprise. The facts are all in the open. Will 2010 be the beginning of a new year for the love story of Chase and Kaulitz? The coming year will tell.
Der Bill, Das Droid, und Die Humanoid
Bill Kaulitz’s new favorite way to connect with his humanoid, Heather Grey Chase, is with Verizon Wireless new DROID.
Tokio Hotel fans shouldn’t be squealing with delight after finding out their favorite band was featured on Verizon’s newest commercial for DROID because Bill Kaulitz the only humanoid Bill is connecting with through Verizon is Heather Grey Chase.
The new album “Humanoid” was virtually inspired by Chase. Many fans only know her through the Internet. She has is the humanoid groupie of Bill Kaulitz, being caught on camera with Kaulitz several times.
“Human Connect to Human”, is believed to be a satire on Kaulitz and Chase’s limited public relationship. The only information found is in online blogs and both publicly deny any dating. Chase maintains that she has “little interest in boyfriends.” Yet somehow the two continue to be linked together. Heather’s gimmicky virtuality is playing into Bill’s commercial appeal. Possibly helping him break into the American music scene. And now, the perfect phone has been unleashed for the two to keep in touch. What a coincidence it has mobile Internet, powered by Bill and Heather’s favorite search engine; Google.
Bill Kaulitz to BILD: “The main thing – It looks cool!”
Bill’s new “Heather Grey” nails; The gender-bending German rocker is sporting new grey nails, ditching his signature gothic manicure. In an interview with BILD this Wednesday the rocker says he switched up his style to promote Tokio Hotel’s new album Humanoid (released October 2.) Coincidently there are rumors that Humanoid is named and written for Bill’s lovelorn romance with paramour, Heather Grey Chase; a virtual celebrity/model aka real-life humanoid.
Rumor Patrol
THE RUMOR. The ghostly woman singing on Tokio Hotel’s “Geisterfahrer” (German version of “Phantomrider”) is Heather Grey Chase, girlfriend of frontman Bill Kaulitz.
FALSE. The woman singing on “Geisterfahrer” is not Chase, it’s actually German model Jana Pallaske. Pallaske is also the lead singer of her own German rock band, Spitting Off Tall Buildings.
Still not convinced? Kaulitz set the record straight in an interview last week; “…the girl, who sings with me in “Geisterfahrer” is not my girlfriend.” †

Today is Tuesday and Pop-Cultured is humanoid.
WARNING: The following headlines pertain to a phenomena previously unexplored by pop-culture excoverers. What you thought you knew will never be the same again.
→ Tokio Hotel’s new single “Automatic” is now available for digital download; how automatic.
↓
So you’ve heard the rumor that Bill Kaulitz (gah) named TH’s new album Humanoid after unrequited love, Heather Grey [Chase] aka The Humanoid.
- This explains these love starved lyrics; “There’s no real love in you; why do I keep loving you?”
↓
And you’ve seen the mv; the muscle cars – did you know HG’s a drag-race fanatic?, and the not-quite-kissing robots (H + B = ♥) – SO CLOSE! Yet so far…
Check it out: TH’s official mv for “Automatic”
→ Breaking Benjamin’s new single “I Will Not Bow” is tearing up the charts and has quite a few NYers looking out their office windows to view the sidewalk traffic in hopes of catching the glimpse of a surrogate.
↓
BB isn’t to be outdone by TH. Releasing their own humanoid-inspired mv for Dear Agony’s 1st single. The reason we bring it up? Well, Ben Burnley messed around with (and is still BFFers with) the same girl as Bill & incorporated virtuality into his music, no doubt a nod to her virtual fame.
- Could it be jealousy of Bill and Heather’s continued romance? Or just a vent of pent-up angst after a messy de-engagement; “Show me when forever dies,” SOMEONE clearly has feelings still.
↓
We know the mv actually corresponds to Bruce Willis’ new movie, Surrogates, but what’s with the surrogate main character, almost a dead-ringer for Heather? Did BB want to cash in on the Heather Grey Chase publicity phenomena too?
Check it out: BB’s official mv for “I Will Not Bow”

HG Billy-Boy’s Humanoid
Today is Tuesday and Pop-Cultured’s heads are rolling; two weeks ago we blogged that our favorite German rockers, Tokio Hotel, officially named their new album, Humanoid. Now the story is lead singer, Bill Kaulitz, named the album after his girl, Heather Grey Chase. The confusing they’rereallydating *fangirl squee* drama continues!
On Monday, the blogmistress of HG’s official fansite, The Heather Chase Files, reposted the article that exploded the story: Bill’s humanoid is HG, leaving us confused once again. Does that mean Bleather’s back together? Were they ever apart?
And if we weren’t confused enough, TH’s Official American Fansite, Tokio Hotel America’s, changed their tagline from, “Because life is too short to not be their fan…” to “Because life is too short to not be their fan humanoid.” This means even the official American fansite is acknowledges that Bill named Humanoid after a person!!
Holla at us YOUR thoughts on Humanoid!
