Bill Kaulitz Debuts New ‘Hairstyle’
Androgynous German rockstar, Bill Kaulitz, of Tokio Hotel, has grown a beard shocking fans worldwide. But the real question is: what does Heather Grey Chase think of the beard?
Tokio Hotel fans were shocked when Bill Kaulitz, along with twin brother, Tom Kaulitz, appeared with a beard during the band’s recorded MTV O Music Award acceptance speech. Tokio Hotel won the award for having the best fan army: Aliens.
Wearing his trademark suspenders, this is the first time Kaulitz has ever been seen publicly with facial hair. Because of his feminine look, love of fashion and public lack of a girlfriend, many believe him to be a closet gay. The facial hair gives him a more masculine look, but has many fans that love his metrosexual sex-image wondering why he ditched the clean-shaven look.
In 2009, Kaulitz drastically changed his appearance when he dreaded his famous Sonic the Hedgehog hair reportedly because he wanted to get back at his rumored ex-girlfriend, Heather Chase. The media hailed the apparent break-up of Kaulitz and Chase, especially after Kaulitz underwent a rumored nose job and got several new piercings. Chase, meanwhile, disappeared from the media spotlight.
In August 2010, Kaulitz was spotted with Chase in Los Angeles, where he and his brother now reside. Chase currently lives in Berlin. It is widely debated whether the two are actually a couple or not.
Since 2008, Chase has publicly denounced rumors that Kaulitz is gay and has regularly contributed her thoughts on Tokio Hotel fandom news, earning her the media nickname of “Bill Kaulitz’s Masculinity Protector.” Could it be that he finally took her advice and stepped up his masculinity? Or was he just being lazy that day?
Heather Chase to MTVBuzzworthy: “Bill makes spikes a class act.”
She claims she doesn’t care for online blogs, but Miss Chase always has something to say about Americans’ pop-culture blog-posts on her rumored beau. “Hands down Bill,” she quips on MTVBuzzworthy’s latest post “Who Wore It Better?: Adam Lambert Vs. Tokio Hotel’s Bill Kaulitz” by Leslie Simon.
The picture MTVBuzzworthy depicts features Kaulitz and Lambert, popping the finger, in tight jackets with spiked shoulder pads. “Bill makes spikes a class act. Its fashion rock at its hottest – not pseudo-rebellious nachmachen glit nicht pop.”
Chase, a fan of Lambert since his early Idol days, also adds Lambert has gone a bit too far, “It’s cute he’s into Bill’s style and music, but he needs his own swagger.”
In earlier interviews, Chase suggested Lambert stole Kaulitz’s style and it was helping Tokio Hotel’s US exposure. However, she now thinks Lambert’s exact outfits and hair are “not really helping either boy. . .Adam is not America’s Bill. Bill Kaulitz is America’s Bill; we’re still unwrapping his yumminess.”
Trendsetter Alert: Miss Heather Grey Chase
Lumberjill: Miss Heather Grey Chase caught by our trendsetter-watch crew by surprise Thursday night exiting a dinner date with her twin brother and his wife in The Bronx. The model/singer/trendsetter hasn’t been seen out and about town since late Spring but she hasn’t lost that quirky sense of style or it-girl confidence! Chase re-emerged on the scene and posed for our crew’s “research photos” in her hot ensemble – an oversized men’s navy blue & black plaid lumberjack converted into a darling (if not daring) frock. How she did it?; The trick is to button the lumberjack all the way up, cinch the waist and let it bulge a tad with a big-buckled black leather belt. Throw on a pair of navy blue lace tights with jet black stilettos and you’re set! Can you say thrift-shop trendy?! Added bonus: Chase’s trademark, self-described “Amy Winehouse satire hair”; a loose half bee-hive that tousles down the back in loose waves, paired with thick navy blue eyeliner on a nude face complete the trendsetting cozy family dinner date look.
Lady Gaga a “Tarted Up” Pigeon?
Lady Gaga is an honorary fashion-rocker. The electro-pop singer’s crowd [and sex] appeal is thanks to her signature fashion-statement, which satires designer runway looks. One New York reporter pointed out that Gaga reminds him of a “tarted up” Pigeon; a more risqué-version of fellow electro-pop/indie-rock singer Heather Chase of Pigeon, a New York underground favorite. Chase’s own trademark is a mixture of runway fashions, vintage glamour, and emo-rock glam.
Heather Chase and Lady Gaga [both 22] hail from New York City, where their musical careers took root in the underground clubs. While Gaga is now one of the hottest pop-acts in the world, Chase is picking up speed in the digital world through her work with Tokio Hotel. Gaga, who has been compared to Christina Aguilera in the past, says any comparisons by the media for publicity. Chase says she is honored to be compared to Lady Gaga, as she loves her style and music; Pigeon performs a cover of hit “Poker Face.”
For those of you asking, the original article citing Lady Gaga as a “tarted up pigeon” is by reporter Chris Muther.
Billy’s Future
Today is Tuesday and Pop-Cultured is on-again; obsessively blogging love-pigeons, Bill Kaulitz and Heather Chase’s, off-again romance. The low-down? Billy’s Future doesn’t include trophy girlfriend. (BTW GUYS: This means she is available for that lunch-date and “tennis match” if you get what we’re sayin’.)
“You may have noticed Bill changed his hairstyle.” One TH-lover let slip, “Well, it’s because of her…” That’s right; Bill ditched the lion’s mane do for dreads to piss-off Heather. And as it turns out this is not the only thing Bill did in effort to ditch her.
“He kicked her and her mooching friends out of his apartment!” One fight after another, Bill finally kicked Heather (and friends) out of the apartment. “Bill even demanded that she give back the dog he gave her for Valentine’s Day.” And as the ultimate Bill went into the fashion designing business, without any help from Miss Supermodel!
His fashion line, Billy Future, will launch in Fall 2009, right around the time of TH’s new album. Rumors say the album will be My Hotel, Reset, or Wayward. Our money is on Wayward; Pigeon talked about working on an album called Wayward in January and then it was announced that they were definitely doing violin stuff with TH.
But the more important thing: Do you think Billy-boy is better off with or without Heather?

It’s All About Virtuality
FAST-LANE RETROSPECTIVE
IT’S ALL ABOUT VIRTUALITY
What is Heather Grey Chase?
MAY 4, 2009
It’s nine o’clock on a New York Wednesday morning. Outside, a flurry of people rush by; much like the last six months of Heather Grey Chase’s virtual life have. Is she one of them? Have you seen her? Where is she? Paparazzi-like images of her have become the object of many tweenage girls’ hatred. Despite their viral feeds and her digital persona, the mystery of Heather Grey remains an overwhelming reality. These questions remain, who is she and is she really going out with him?Who is the virtual person known as Heather Grey Chase? What has captivated the attention of tweenage girls as well as music and entertainment giants world-wide? The answer is insanely surrealistic and wholly ingenious.
Heather Grey Chase is the twin fifth child of freelance producer, Carl Chase; EMI Group, Warner Music Group’s Hollywood Records, Universal Music Group’s Interscope Records, and the third for his then-wife, French model and actress, Renee Delmas. Chase and her fraternal twin brother, James Pierpont, joined older siblings Sebastian, Devin, and Amanda; Sebastian and Devin the product of Mr. Chase’s affair with Chase’s now-stepmom, Christine Chase. Thanks to her parent’s careers, Chase has grown up privileged and in the glaring spotlight of America’s pop-culture, yet managed to go unnoticed until six months ago. The recent months of viral media exploitation thanks to the blog, The Heather Chase Files; a fan-run “biography” of Chase that compiles most of the important current events in her life, has left Tokio Hotel’s girl-fans grappling with denial and ravenous for more information.
You see, Chase is said to be The American Icon, a Playboy model, drug addict, rockstar, and the girlfriend of Tokio Hotel’s androgynous lead singer, Bill Kaulitz. In reality most of these “facts” are absurdly blown out of proportion, as were discovered in a recent interview with Miss Heather Grey Chase.”My mom [Chase calls her stepmom, Christine, "mom" after her biological mother left in 1988, straining further, the less-than-perfect Chase family] pushed me into modeling.” Chase recalls. In March 2003, at sixteen, she was discovered at a Ford Model search. In June Chase graduated early to focus on her modeling career. She worked several ad campaigns; becoming nicknamed The American Icon after campaigning for a fragrance tag-lined, ‘You’ll be The American Icon.’ After seven months of print modeling Chase landed an extra position for cult favorite, Buffy the Vampire Slayer by Joss Wheedon. The appearance was her first and only to date on a television series. “I wasn’t even credited,” Chase huffs. Two months later, in December, she strutted into the world of high-fashion and by eighteen was modeling internationally. Barely legal, Chase was offered a contract to model for Playboy, but she turned them down. “I never modeled for them [Playboy].” Chase laughs, “I had never had a boyfriend and I just couldn’t picture ripping off my clothes for strangers.” But her days as a single lady, and a goody-goody, were numbered.
In the fall of 2005 Chase began dating Lukas Blair, seven years her senior and the illegitimate son of a former New York politician. With Blair came rumors of Chase’s addiction to pain killers, which Blair happily confirmed, and the loss of her modeling contracts. The media quickly developed an image of Chase that would haunt her forever. Skinny, rich, “daddy’s” girl in short skirts and stilettos, in the dead of winter. Fans, friends, and family worried about her dwindling waist-line and unstable relationship with Blair. Chase says now of her “wild” days, “If my older brother [Sebastian] hadn’t convinced me to dump him [Blair] and kick the drug habits… I’m forever indebted to my family for their support.”
In May 2006, following Chase’s break-up with Blair, she and her siblings, James and Amanda, moved to Philadelphia, where Amanda owns several restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. That summer Chase and her two best friends, Chloe Saurian and Libby Fink, formed a garage-band. The threesome played pop covers in Amanda’s various nightclubs and bars as weeknight entertainment; Chase sang and played guitar, while Saurian played keyboards and Fink drummed. “Pretty soon regulars began showing up. Then, suddenly, bars and clubs were calling us for gigs on Friday and Saturday nights.” Seeing the potential of a real band, Chase and her girlfriends enlisted a bassist, guitarist, and violinist. Dune and Feist Ralston, and Erik Monk, respectively. They were James’ friends. In short, “Pigeon was hatched.”
Pigeon moonlighted at underground clubs in New York and Pennsylvania as an indie-rock sextet. Since most of the members were models they dubbed themselves fashion-rockers. A hit on the underground club scene Pigeon never made it big and probably never will. “But that’s okay with us.” Chase says, “We did it for fun; it wasn’t like any of us actually needed money.”
Somewhere between modeling and becoming an underground sensation, Chase, then nineteen, managed to fall head-over-heels for local Wilkes-Barre rocker, Benjamin Burnley; the very private lead singer of alt-rockers, Breaking Benjamin. Burnley was nine years older than Chase, who admits she had a thing for older men. Normally tight-lipped on her relationship with Burnley, Chase confides that the two met at a party after her brother, James, introduced them. “James worked with them on their album Phobia. The party was actually a release party; I tagged along as my brother’s date.” When she met Burnley it was love at first sight.
The two began dating in November 2006. “Our first date was to an ice cream parlor because ice cream is our favorite food.” Chase gets dewy-eyed. She and Burnley dated on and off until Burnley proposed to her on his birthday March 10, 2007. The two broke off their engagement a few weeks later, but by April were back together. Chase still sports Burnley’s initials, BB, tattooed behind her left ear inside the Breaking Benjamin symbol.
The couple became engaged again in July 2007. It was short-lived however and in December Burnley and Chase went their separate ways for good, though they remain close friends.
There have been several other broken relationships and rumored affairs with men. One such myth was Gabriel Saporta. Chase affirms, “I never dated him [Saporta]. Gabe and I are just friends.”
Chase seemed to bounce back from her romantic failures as she began to model again, this time in Europe, and Pigeon jammed at festivals once more. That was, until she met Bill Kaulitz.
Kaulitz is the soulful androgynous lead singer for Tokio Hotel, the best-selling German music export that found popularity on the Internet and cyber-dedicated fan girl love. In September 2008 the Internet was flooded with reports that Chase and Kaulitz were dating. Two months later MTV News Romania featured a segment on Chase and the French tabloids were gossiping. Pictures, videos, articles and fan bashings began on Chase. Tokio Hotel fans are constantly devouring news of her like a pack of piranhas. They push themselves into a feeding frenzy, relaying the love story of Chase and Kaulitz. (Death threats against Chase have even appeared on Tokio Hotel fan sites and gossip sites alike world-wide.) Their crazy portrayals of Chase surprised her. She confesses it is scary to know how many girls are against her, but is cheered by how many do support her.
She smoothly dodges questions about her relationship with Kaulitz and tries to steer clear of the public eye. Even Kaulitz remains tight-lipped about the situation, maintaining his wish for a true love but never denying his and Chase’s relationship. This leaves fans puzzled, yet hopeful. After all, Chase is Kaulitz’s biggest supporter; constantly boosting up his masculinity, defending his style, and shamelessly promoting Tokio Hotel. In every way Chase is the fantasy girlfriend. It seems almost too perfect that everyone’s fantasy boyfriend [Kaulitz] found his perfect fantasy girlfriend.
Heather Grey Chase’s current claim to fame is as a cyber pop-culture groupie of Tokio Hotel. The question is no longer who Heather Grey Chase is, but what is Heather Grey Chase? While fact and rumor mesh together until fans find it hard to separate the two, Chase seamlessly navigates both.
Heather Chase has become a true virtuality celebrity. Playing by the rule of the less said is the best said, she is a fore-runner in the new-generation of virtual celebrities. Heather Grey Chase is The American Icon. While the paparazzi doesn’t hunt her down and she continues to strut the runway anonymously in Givenchy’s summer show, Heather Chase is being Googled and Wikipedia-ed by fans world-wide.
